Painted Tree Boutiques closures leave hundreds of vendors scrambling

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) – Hundreds of local business owners are left without a storefront after Painted Tree Boutiques suddenly announced all their locations are going out of business.

A sign is now posted on the door at the Painted Tree Boutiques in Murfreesboro. Vendors have been coming throughout the day to collect what they can after learning of the closure.

“I was actually on my way here to stock inventory and now I have nowhere to put it,” said Vicky Pope, owner of Just Another Mom Hustler booth.

Pope had two booths inside Painted Tree Boutiques. She shared an email that was sent to vendors from the corporate office at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday announcing the closure. Vendors have until April 24 to collect all inventory.

The company offers space for small business owners to sell their products. They pay the company rent, depending on the size of their setup, paying anything from $150 a month to $1,300 per booth.

“You have to sign a year contract, so they’re getting paid regardless and they’re getting 10% of our sales,” Pope said.

Pope and several other vendors are wondering where that money has gone. After already paying their rent this month, they are now worried they won’t be getting anything back.

“This is our livelihood our business our small local businesses out the door now,” Pope said.

Lindsey Romine also has two shops in the Murfreesboro location. She owns the Lindsey and K company and the Cozy Toad. She says a new owner took over the company in October, and since that time she and several other vendors have been shorted out of their paychecks. She says the company owes her thousands of dollars. Yet, she says the biggest dilemma will be collecting her inventory from the 20 stores she’s currently in nationwide.

“I’m calling friends of friends at this point and I’m like if anyone can get anything out. Then I can hopefully make a trip and get some things. I have a store as far away as Arizona that’s not a drive,” Romine said. “It’s really nerve racking. I’m just sad that there was no communication with the closure,” Romine said.
