Environment Canada is warning Greater Toronto Area residents of dense fog, heavy rains and potential thunderstorms.
The national weather agency issued a yellow advisory Wednesday for fog with “near zero visibility” in some areas, especially near the shores of Lake Ontario. The fog is expected to dissipate in the afternoon.
A separate special weather statement was also issued for up to 20 millimetres of rainfall that could lead to flooded roads on Wednesday and Thursday.
“The ground, already near saturation, has a limited capacity to absorb this rainfall,” said Environment Canada, adding that higher amounts of rain could be possible in other areas.
“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas.”
The warnings are in place throughout the GTA, including Halton, Toronto and Oshawa.
Drivers are urged to be weary of water pooling on roads and reduced visibility from the fog.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority extended a flood outlook Monday afternoon, warning that flooding may be possible with widespread rain in a short amount of time.
Shorelines and streams could be dangerous due to faster flowing and higher levels of water, it said. The outlook is in place until the end of Wednesday.
