In a time when communities are rediscovering the power of coming together, one Wishaw group is proving just how transformative that sense of connection can be.
The Friday‑morning Slimming World group at the Beltane Outdoor Bowling Club has kicked off the year with remarkable success—collectively shedding almost 500 lbs in just a few months. But the numbers tell only part of the story.
Behind every pound lost is a personal victory, a mindset shift, and a ripple effect that extends far beyond the group’s weekly meetings.
Seven members have already reached their personal target weight, a milestone that reflects dedication, encouragement, and the belief that long‑term change is possible.

A further five members have achieved their Club 10 award, marking the moment they’ve lost 10% of their body weight—a change known to bring meaningful health benefits.
Slimming World consultant Lian McCulloch said: “What makes this group stand out isn’t just the weight loss. It’s the atmosphere.
“Every Friday morning, members gather not only to share their progress but to swap ideas on saving money, eating well, and building habits that last.
“The Beltane Outdoor Bowling Club has become a hub of positivity, where people walk in looking for support and walk out feeling uplifted, motivated, and part of something bigger.
“The impact stretches well beyond the meeting room. As members adopt healthier routines, their families often follow suit—children trying new foods, partners joining in on home‑cooked meals, households becoming more active and mindful. The group’s success is quietly shaping a healthier Wishaw, one small change at a time.

“What’s most inspiring is the sustainability of it all. Members aren’t chasing quick fixes; they’re learning how to make gradual, realistic adjustments that fit into everyday life.
“Those small shifts—choosing different ingredients, planning meals, finding joy in movement—are adding up to major health benefits for people across Wishaw and the surrounding areas.”
It’s been a fantastic start to the year for this dedicated community, and the momentum shows no signs of slowing. With every milestone reached and every supportive conversation shared, the group continues to champion healthier living in a way that feels achievable, welcoming, and genuinely life‑changing.
If the first few months are anything to go by, this Slimming World group is on track to make 2026 a year of transformation—not just for its members, but for the wider community they inspire.
