Yankees vs. Royals Rain Delay, April 19: Start Time, Updates, Full Details

The New York Yankees seem to be getting back on track after a bit of a rough stretch. Winners of two straight games over the Royals, the Yankees appear to have recovered from a tough four-game split with the Angels, in which Mike Trout victimized New York pitchers, and from an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Rays. Sadly, the Yankees’ quest to secure a sweep of their own over Kansas City is on pause while some weather rolls through the area.

For those who aren’t aware, a rather big line of storms is coming through the northeast on Sunday and will impact a few games. Unfortunately, that includes Ryan Weathers’ start against Cole Ragans, and we are now officially in a rain delay. The Yankees announced extremely early that, while gates would open on schedule, the start time would be bumped. Will there be enough concession workers to handle the masses? Signs point to “no”.

**UPDATE: 3:17 PM EST**

Well, that took…quite a while, but we have some idea as to what the plan regarding this rain delay now. Assuming that the forecast holds, which is a big “if”, the Yankees and Royals are going to try and get this game started at 4:20 PM EST which is definitely a completely normal and not hilarious time at all.

Please be advised first pitch is scheduled for 4:20 p.m.

Yankees vs. Royals Rain Delay, 4/19/26: When will this game actually get started?

So, this is not exactly a fast-moving storm. The Yankees’ best hope was that the storm would be slow enough that they could get enough innings in to be an official game, but that obviously did not happen. However, the forecast does improve significantly later in the afternoon, and both teams probably will want to avoid rescheduling this one to their late May series or later in the year. It might take a couple of hours, depending on exactly what this storm does and how it breaks up, but

The Yankees have an off-day on Monday, while the Royals start their series down the road against the Orioles on Monday. In theory, that should make waiting out this delay palatable for both squads without too much concern for the impacts on their upcoming games.

We will keep this post updated with all of the most up-to-date information as it becomes available. Once there is an estimated game start time, you will be able to find it right here. You may want to get comfortable, as this one could last a while, but the odds remain good that the Yankees and Royals will try to play today.
