Prince Harry and Meghan dealt humiliating new blow after ‘dire’ Australia trip | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s “dire” trip to Australia did not turn out as they’d hoped, it has been claimed. The Sussexes’ four-day visit to the country has now concluded, but online editor for the Spectator Australia Alexandra Marshall still doesn’t know why the couple flew there in the first place.

When asked by TalkTV presenter Mark Dolan why they went to Australia, Alexandra said: “No one has the faintest idea and worse than that, most Australians had no idea they were even here. There was a great quote in the Sydney Morning Herald: ‘Australia was good to Harry and Meghan, now they want to use us as an ATM.’ The problem is, Australia is now trillions of dollars in debt. The gold rush was in the 1850s so Harry and Meghan are a little bit late for that one.”

She added: “Genuinely, no one knew they were here,” admitting she had to google what they were doing because she didn’t realise they were in Sydney.

Mark theorised: “So they failed to make the headlines they hoped they would make?”

Alexandra agreed: “They weren’t even front page of the Daily Mail until a few minutes ago when apparently an aid got given a bit of a side glare from Meghan. Apart from that, they’re not even in the news cycle. That’s how dire this trip has been.

“Whatever the star quality is that Harry and Meghan originally had, it was definitely tied to the love Australians have for the monarchy.”

Mark highlighted that it was “not a great look” before steering the discussion to the couple’s activities during their visit.

They arrived at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where they posed for photographs with patients and engaged with the youngsters. Meghan also volunteered at a soup kitchen and spoke to survivors of the Bondi Beach attack.

She explained: “Both of them went down to Bondi beach to meet the victims of the Bondi terror attack, one person didn’t move out the way. There’s a great clip of a woman sunbathing in the sand and she doesn’t even know they’re there.

“That’s a great image for how Australia has received the royals. I’ve noticed there is more interest in the US tour with the king going over for the anniversary of the US than there has been of the Meghan tour.”
