WrestleMania 42 results: Roman Reigns wins world heavyweight title from CM Punk

The main event of WrestleMania 42, the true headlining attraction of both nights at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, featured World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk putting that title on the line against the crown jewel of the WWE roster over the past decade, Roman Reigns. This one has been building since Punk’s tell all podcast dropped after he walked out on WWE all the way back in 2014.

They did their absolute best to give it a big fight feel with two epic entrances, including one hell of a throwback for Punk’s theme:

The two put together what felt like an epic match if only because the rest of the card — and I mean both nights — featured so few matches that actually allowed for the wrestlers to kick out of finishers. They got the most time, Punk got color, and plenty of leeway from the referee for spots like a powerbomb through the announcer’s table on the outside.

They both used each other’s signature moves, scoring near falls each time. By the time they went into the big back-and-forth trading signature spots, it felt like a WrestleMania for the first time all weekend. They traded so often, it felt like a true epic when they were both laid out selling for each other, talking shit as they stood up to trade more punches.

Punk, desperate, distracted the official and delivered a low blow before hitting another GTS. Even that only got a two count.

Punk hit a flying elbow through the other announcer’s table on the outside, and then another GTS back in the ring, where Reigns bounced off the ropes and landed back onto his shoulders … just for the champion to collapse from exhaustion. When he stood back up, it was right into a Spear that he immediately got up to his knees from. He threw a lame punch, nowhere close to landing, and Reigns saw the blood in the water, got a head of steam, and finished him off with one more Spear.

Roman Reigns is your new world heavyweight champion.
