Sharon Lokedi repeats at women’s Boston Marathon champion

Like in the men’s race, the women’s winner was a repeat champion as well.

Sharon Lokedi pulled away to win her second straight Boston Marathon crown, winning the 2026 title with a time of 2:18:51.

The Kenyan opened a wide gap as the race went on and broke the tape a comfortable distance ahead of the competition.

Lokedi won the 2025 race with a time of 2:17:22.

John Korir wins second straight Boston Marathon men’s title

John Korir has won a second straight Boston Marathon.

The Kenyan took home the crown with an unofficial time of 2:01:52.

When Korir won in 2025, he accomplished a feat previously achieved by his brother, Wesley Korir, in 2012.

Eden Rainbow-Cooper wins second Boston Marathon women’s wheelchair title

Eden Rainbow-Cooper won her second Boston Marathon women’s wheelchair title.

In 2024, Rainbow-Cooper became the first woman from Great Britain to win the division.

On Monday, she finished with an unofficial time of 1:30:51, several minutes ahead of the competition.

Marcel Hug wins Boston Marathon men’s wheelchair division

Switzerland’s Marcel Hug won the Boston Marathon men’s wheelchair division in dominant fashion.

After building a wide lead early on, Hug cruised to an unofficial time of 1:16:05. 

Hug is known as “The Silver Bullet.” He got the nickname for his trademark silver helmet.

For winning, Hug earned $50,000.

Men’s and women’s professional runners start

The Boston Marathon professional runners have departed the starting line in Hopkinton.

Kenyans Sharon Lokedi and John Korir are both looking to defend their titles in the women’s and men’s professional divisions

The top American men in contention include Conner Mantz, Galen Rupp, Clayton Young, Biya Simbassa, Ryan Ford, Zouhair Talbi and CJ Albertson.

The women’s professional field includes Americans Emily Sisson, Fiona O’Keeffe, Dakotah Popehn, Susanna Sullivan, Jess McClain and Erika Kemp.

Boston Marathon prize money

The total prize money purse for the 2026 Boston Marathon is $1,284,500.

The winning runners for the men and women receive $150,000 each. Second place earns $75,000 and third place gets $40,000.

In the wheelchair division, the top men and women earn $50,000, followed by $30,000 for second place and $15,000 for third.

Runners or wheelchair athletes who set a course record will get a $50,000 bonus.

Wheelchair athletes start Boston Marathon

The 2026 Boston Marathon is officially underway, with the men’s professional wheelchair athletes starting at 9:06 a.m.

For the men, eight-time winner and defending Boston Marathon champ Marcel Hug from Switzerland and American Daniel Romanchuk are top contenders. 

Defending women’s wheelchair champion Susannah Scaroni from the U.S. is not racing this year because she’s expecting a baby. Her countrywoman, five-time Boston Marathon champion Tatyana McFadden, is one of the favorites.

Boston Marathon flyover

There will be a flyover for the Boston Marathon this morning.

One C-130, operated by the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut Air National Guard, will fly over the course route.

The military transport aircraft will cross the starting line in Hopkinton around 9:55 a.m. and fly over the entire course in about six minutes.

Celebrity Boston Marathon runners

Keep an eye out for some famous faces running the Boston Marathon this year.

Among the celebrities and athletes who have entered the race this year are astronaut Suni Williams, Chelsea Clinton, Zdeno Chara and others.

Other notable names include Dropkick Murphys bandmember Jeff DaRosa, former Boston Marathon champion Des Linden, retired soccer star Kristine Lilly and running comedian Laura Green.

Boston Marathon road closures and parking restrictions

There’s a long list of road closures Monday from the starting line in Hopkinton to the finish line in Boston.

Parking meters are free in Boston thanks to the Patriots’ Day holiday, but the bad news is parking will be heavily restricted on streets around the marathon.

Boston Marathon weather forecast

The weather forecast for the 2026 race is decidedly better for runners than spectators.

Temperatures will be about 50 degrees, with a northwest wind of about 5 to 15 mph.

There could be some spotty showers in the afternoon.

Besides the starting line and finishing line, some of the best spots for spectators include the “scream tunnel” at Wellesley College, the South Framingham train station on Waverly Street, Cleveland Circle and Kenmore Square. 

“Heartbreak Hill” between miles 20 and 21 in Newton is another famous landmark where runners can use the support of the crowd.
