Deputies arrest barricaded Summerville man after hourslong standoff

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) — The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged a man in connection with an alleged violent domestic disturbance followed by an hourslong standoff Saturday evening.

Andre Marcel Dumortier, 38, of Summerville, was charged with first-degree criminal domestic violence and violation of a court order of protection.

Deputies responded to the 100 block of Twin Peaks Drive around 4:20 p.m. in reference to an alleged violent domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they determined that Dumortier had barricaded himself inside his house and the victim was able to leave, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Steven Wright said.

Deputies activated the sheriff’s department SWAT team, aviation unit, crisis negotiators and the Dorchester County Unified Command Post to assist. Dumortier peacefully surrendered to deputies at 7:33 p.m.

He was denied bond and remains in custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
