The final weeks of the campaign cannot pass soon enough for Liverpool after an underwhelming defence of their title. Despite splashing out £450million last summer, the Reds have regressed, casting doubt over Arne Slot’s position at the club.

Liverpool may find themselves relying on the Premier League’s fifth-place bonus to guarantee Champions League football next season. Partly owing to Chelsea’s dip in form, that objective appears likely to be achieved, though it will provide scant comfort.

It is evident that the squad requires an overhaul heading into next season, with at least two departures, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, already confirmed. Here’s the latest Reds transfer news…

Liverpool ‘assess’ Yan Diomande

Liverpool will likely be in need of reinforcements in attack this summer. The talismanic Mohamed Salah is set to depart the club after nine years, while Hugo Ekitike’s Achilles injury is due to keep him sidelined for a prolonged period.

The good news is that Alexander Isak is on his way back from injury, while Rio Ngumoha has been one of the few bright sparks of the season. But with only Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa as the only recognised first-team attackers in the squad, the club could be forced into the market in the summer.

The Times reports Liverpool are ‘are assessing options’, and exciting young RB Leipzig talent Yan Diomande is one of the players currently being considered. The report adds that the Bundesliga outfit value the 19-year-old at £85m.

Diomande previously revealed that his father is a Liverpool fan, leading to plenty of excitement about a potential move among the club’s fanbase.

Klopp’s plans clear

Should Slot leave, numerous Reds supporters will be hoping for a sentimental comeback for Jurgen Klopp.

Since departing Anfield, the German has assumed positions as head of global football with the Red Bull Group and as an adviser to the German Football League.

Nevertheless, he has played down a return to club management, recently dismissing speculation connecting him with Real Madrid. According to AS, the only position that would entice him back into the dugout is with Germany.

The Spanish publication reports that managing his nation is his long-term goal. Whether he achieves that ambition in the immediate future may depend on how Germany perform at the World Cup under Julian Nagelsmann, who has a deal until after Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland.
