Driver, 21, banned after crashing BMW while nearly twice drink-drive limit

An Isle of Wight man who crashed his BMW while nearly twice over the drink-drive limit has been banned from the road.
Adam Wade, 21, of Eddington Road in Seaview, appeared before the IW Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 17, where he pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving.
The court heard Wade was involved in a collision on Embankment Road, at its junction with Latimer Road, in St Helens, on February 9.

Prosecutor Serena Edwards said Wade’s BMW 3 Series 320i M Sport was left significantly damaged, with debris scattered across the road and the airbags deployed.
Police officers who attended found Wade slurring his words.
He was taken to hospital, where he told officers he believed he could “swing” around the corner but went “too far left” and lost control.
A blood test showed he had 147mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood -almost twice the legal limit.
The court was told Wade had no previous convictions.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick said Wade had “lost his good name” and now had a criminal record.
He added that Wade was likely to lose his apprenticeship as a result of the inevitable driving disqualification.
Mr McGoldrick said Wade had been drinking with friends before deciding to drive “the short distance home.”
The BMW was written off in the crash, leaving Wade owing his parents £8,000.
Magistrates disqualified Wade from driving for 19 months and ordered him to pay a total of £697 in costs, surcharge and a fine.
