On Wednesday, longtime forward Trevor Lewis announced his retirement after 17 seasons in the NHL.

Trevor Lewis has officially announced his retirement following 1,034 NHL games – wishing all the best to the 2x Stanley Cup champion in his retirement 👏

In a statement, Lewis thanked the Los Angeles Kings, the team he helped win two Stanley Cups with in 2012 and 2014, making the team from Hollywood one of the standard bearers in the NHL during the decade.

“As a kid growing up in Utah,” Lewis said. “I could have never imagined this journey. Playing over 1,000 games and winning two Stanley Cups. Those milestones aren’t just numbers to me, they represent years of sacrifice, perseverance, and a deep love for the game.

“I want to especially thank the Los Angeles Kings organization for believing in me from day one. You gave me an opportunity to chase this dream, and together we built something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Along with giving a well-deserved shoutout to his former teammates, coaches and others he’s encountered in the game, Lewis thanked his family for supporting him throughout his journey in the league.

“To my family, you were the foundation through it all. Your sacrifices, your belief, and your unwavering support made this career possible. I share every moment with you. I leave this game with nothing but gratitude and pride. Hockey has given me everything and I’m excited to see what comes next.”

Lewis last played for the Kings during the 2024-25 season, scoring six goals and 12 points in 60 games. He was widely known for his shutdown ability, making him one of the better defensive players in the NHL. In 1,034 games, making stops with the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets, the Salt Lake City native scored 104 goals and 133 assists for 237 points, with another 28 points in 106 postseason games.
