All 11 working royals are pictured in rare photo to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s centenary – but who’s who?

King Charles, however, has instituted a ‘slimmed down’ approach to the monarchy, reducing the number of family members considered working royals. Ever since, attendance at events such as these have been limited to this core group: the King, the Queen, the Princess Royal, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra – though the latter is very rarely seen nowadays.

This photograph is a testament to the depth of feeling that the royals hold for Queen Elizabeth II, who would have turned 100 today. The Firm has marked the centenary with a number of poignant engagements, which culminated in a reception at Buckingham Palace, where King Charles welcomed people who were also celebrating their centenary year, offering them a chance to receive their traditional letter from the King in person.

Prince William and Catherine were among the senior royals who joined King Charles III and Queen Camilla for the afternoon engagement in the bunting-strung Marble Hall. The Princess was the epitome of regal elegance as she arrived at the event in a lilac dress, her chestnut hair cascading over one shoulder. Her ears were adorned with the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings, a favourite heirloom inherited from Queen Elizabeth II, which she has worn on a number of occasions, including to the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March.
