Happy’s Place Unveils Eric Stonestreet as a Therapist in Season 2’s Finale (DETAILS)

Happy’s Place is welcoming another comedy legend to Season 2’s iconic list of guest stars. In the finale episode airing on April 24, Eric Stonestreet will make his debut as a couples therapist, but his clients perhaps aren’t who you’d expect.

How to Watch

Watch Happy’s Place Fridays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

In the Happy’s Place Season 2 finale episode “Couples Counseling,” the Modern Family star plays Dr. Russell Peabody III, or simply Dr. Russ, who’s described as having a “very unorthodox” approach to therapy. Stonestreet’s character will sit down for an appointment with Bobbie (Reba McEntire) and Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) as the sisters work through a conflict at the bar. Elsewhere in the episode, the longline reveals Emmett (Rex Linn) tries to “gently break up with Monica,” the stringent health inspector played by Saturday Night Live legend Cheri Oteri.

“We’re all dysfunctional in some way and we all need to sit down and chat with somebody,” Stonestreet told NBC Insider in an interview ahead of his Happy’s Place debut, adding that he hopes viewers “would see themselves going to Dr. Russ.”

In a preview clip of the Happy’s Place Season 2 finale, Stonestreet makes his debut as Dr. Russell Peabody III, who’s eager to talk about his various waterfront vacation homes and show off pictures of his “new boat.”

“Are you even a real doctor? ‘Cause you act like a janitor who decided to have a little fun,” Bobbie quips inside Dr. Russ’ office.

After revealing that he’d spent time reviewing their pre-session paperwork — Bobbie’s is a single sheet, while Isabella provided a stack of documents — Dr. Russ declares, in a Southern accent, “I think I got y’all figured out.”

“Isabella, you’d rather analyze your feelings than deal with them. You think if you can put a name to ’em, they’ll just go away. Sweetie, that ain’t how feelings work,” Dr. Russ says, telling a befuddled Isabella that he “can’t argue every Pinterest quote you’ve read.”

“Okay, what about me?” Bobbie, keen to move this session along, asks Dr. Russ.

“Oh you’ve got something going on, yeah. But you’re too afraid to look at it,” he bluntly tells her. “And until you do, you’ll pretend there’s not a problem. And your relationships? They’ll continue to suffer.”

Taken aback by his analysis, Bobbie slaps her knees and quickly puts on a smile. “Okay then! ” she laughs. “Good to know! We done?”

Seemingly delighted to wrap up the appointment so quickly, Dr. Russ tells the sisters, “Well I feel better, so sure!”
