As it happens: Hornchurch vs Maidenhead United

Halftime and it’s goalless at The Stadium. But Maidenhead have moved into the play-offs as it stands thanks to results elsewhere! Maidenhead would be travelling to Torquay United on Tuesday if things remain the same. But there’s 45 minutes to come and I’m sure more twists and turns. 0-0

42′ Great chance for the hosts. They move the ball slickly, one-touch football to create a chance for Josh Rees who’s in on goal but he side-foots just wide of the post. 0-0

40′ A hushed silence around The Stadium. Worthing have taken the lead against Ebbsfleet United. Dorking are also leading against Weston which means Maidenhead are up to sixth in the table as it stands. Hornchurch can’t win the title if that first result remain the same. Still goalless here as we approach half-time. 0-0

39′ Deflected strike from Robinson flies over the bar for a corner to Maidenhead. 0-0

36′ Poleon does well to chase down a lost cause and create an opportunity at the far post for Rees, but his shot is weak and JVS saves easily 0-0

33′ Despite Hornchurch having two big chances in the half, Maidenhead have arguably had the edge. Popoola has just broken through again and laid the ball off for Yearwood who was closed down. 0-0

28′ CHANCE for Maidenhead. Yearwood slips a great pass through for Popoola who beats his man in the area but then decides to pull the ball back for a teammate rather than going for goal. That was an opportunity for the Magpies! 0-0

24′ Robinson takes aim from the edge of the box for Maidenhead but his shot is blocked and Hornchurch clear. 0-0

16′ CHANCE! How have Hornchurch not scored there. There’s a flick on from a long throw and the hosts seem certain to score but somehow the Magpies defenders manage to scramble the ball away when it seemed the net was about to bulge! Urchins players claiming the ball was over the line but it remains 0-0.

15′ There are some meaty challenges going in. Both teams clearly committed to the cause this afternoon. 0-0

11′ Good spell for Maidenhead. Yearwood forces another corner with a deflected drive 0-0

9′ Corner for Maidenhead after a good move down the right. Popoola floats it in after exchanging passes with Yearwood but the keeper catches well 0-0

6′ Jayden Mitchell Lawson appeared to have his run checked as he was held attempting to get the ball as it runs out of the box, but the referee isn’t interested in appeals for a penalty. Sustained holding in the area ref? 0-0

4′ Huge chance for Hornchurch’s Dom Poleon but he fires straight at JVS! Brilliant save from the Magpies keeper to keep it level 0-0

2′ Josh Rees stabs an effort at goal from close range but doesn’t get much power on it and Jordi Van Stappershoef saves comfortably. 0-0

Less than 10 minutes to kick off at The Stadium. A reminder that Maidenhead will finish in the play-offs with a win, and may also do it with a draw if one of Torquay, Ebbsfleet or Weston lose this afternoon. Hosts Hornchurch will be champions if they win today and Worthing slip up against Ebbsfleet.

A reminder of how things  stand in the National League South promotion picture ahead of the final matches, which kick off in a few minutes (!2.30pm)

Maidenhead United visit Hornchurch for their final match of the season in the National League South. There’s a lot riding on this fixture and a win for the Magpies would see them finish in the play-offs whatever the outcome of results elsewhere. But it’s also a huge game for Maidenhead’s hosts Hornchurch who could win the league if they beat Maidenhead and Worthing drop points in their match against Ebbsfleet United.
