Lucas Brennan

What does it mean for you to fight for the UFC? It’s very exciting. It’s not only a recognition of the work I have been putting in since I was very young but also a generational follow up from my dad who fought in both UFC 16 and 35, and for the very fight Lightweight Title (at the time 170) against Pat Miletich at UFC 16.
When and why did you start training for fighting? Started training originally as a kid just as a preventive measure for bullying, clearly it worked out. When I was in high school I made the change over to fighting while I was active in jiujitsu and wrestling and never looked back from there.
Who is your favorite fighter and why? Growing up it was always GSP and Frankie Edgar, they were easily the best and the coolest guys in the game and not only very technical but full of heart and a love of the game.
Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? Not really outside of fighting, but my little brother Tyler Brennan will always be my hero.
What are your current ranks in martial arts? Second Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt
Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Undefeated and ranked No. 7 under the Bellator banner before its closing. Was No. 5 on ESPN’s Top 25 Fighters Under 25 list.
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why?
I think my knockout win over Weber Almeida is an important one due to it being a showcase of both my heart and expanding bag of tools at my disposal. My most recent win over Joshua Weems, a prior UFC vet, was also equally important as both a showcase of a win over a very experienced opponent and a true return to form for myself.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? The love of the game.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Went to University of North Texas, left to pursue fighting when I was 18.
What was your job before you started fighting? This is all I have ever done, when I’m not fighting I coach club wrestling out of Frisco, TX.
Favorite grappling technique: Rear Naked Choke
Favorite Striking technique: Superman punch
Tell us about your life outside of fighting: Outside of fighting most of my time is spent recovering from fighting and mostly in the arts. I have an extensive collection of near-2000 vinyl records and artwork that I put most of my free time into. Not everything can be violent; palette cleansers are needed.
What is one thing that you want UFC fans around the world to know about you? That there is no quit in me, I am one of the best at what I do and am excited to be there and show them what it is that I have spent my child and adult life perfecting to the best of my ability.
