‘SNL’ mocks Trump over rising gas prices in cold open
“Saturday Night Live” kicked off its latest cold open with President Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) discussing Iran and rising gas prices.
“Saturday Night Live” fans are just going to have to go without, at least for tonight.
A new episode of the late-night comedy showcase won’t air until May 2, when the series will finish off its 51st season with three consecutive new episodes. On Saturday, April 25, a “SNL” episode that has already aired will hold down the time slot.
Fans can stream pretty much every “SNL” season on Peacock, or watch “The Rundown,” a new short-form digital series where cast members old and new are tasked with crafting the perfect episode, in the meantime. New “Rundown” episodes drop every Wednesday, through mid-June.
Olivia Rodrigo to host and perform on ‘SNL’ on May 2
“Driver’s License” singer Olivia Rodrigo will be the face of “SNL’s” welcome committee on May 2, serving as both host and musical guest after the weeks-long hiatus.
The May 2 show marks the pop star’s third appearance as musical guest. It will be her first time hosting.
Rodrigo’s third studio album, “You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love,” is due June 12. Her newest single, “Drop Dead,” is out now.
A jampacked roster of heavy hitters, including Will Ferrell to Noah Kahan, will follow Rodrigo’s “SNL” appearance in the weeks that follow. The “SNL” season will conclude on May 16.
Here’s what we know about the rest of Season 51, including where to watch.

Yes, but it’s a repeat of the Dec. 20, 2025 episode, hosted by Ariana Grande with musical guest Cher. It was also the last episode for Bowen Yang, who joined “SNL” as a writer in 2018 and then as a member of the cast in 2019.

New episodes of “SNL” won’t return until May 2, according to NBC.
The last three shows of Season 51 will air every Saturday night from May 2 through May 16. Olivia Rodrigo is up first, hosting and performing on May 2, with Matt Damon and Noah Kahan not getting in on the fun until the following week.
“SNL” alum Will Ferrell and Paul McCartney, the last duo of Season 51, are closing the book on May 16.
A premiere date for Season 52 hasn’t been announced, but the show typically returns towards the end September, or at the beginning of October.
