Why Kartik Tyagi was taken off mid-over and then called back in LSG vs KKR super-over thriller

Kartik Tyagi survived a mid-over scare after back-to-back no-balls as it warranted him to leave, but umpires still allowed him to continue in Kolkata Knight Riders vs Lucknow Super Giants clash. Here’s why.

It turned into one of the most dramatic moments in the IPL 2026 clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders when Kartik Tyagi was almost taken off mid-over, only to return and bowl the final deliveries that led to a Super Over finish.

The drama began in the last over with LSG chasing 156 and neeing 17 to win. Tyagi started the over but quickly ran into trouble as he bowled a high full-toss to Himmat Singh, which was called a no-ball. He bowled another waist-high full-toss in the next delivery. According to the rules, bowlers can be taken off the attack if they bowl dangerous repeated deliveries.

Why was Tyagi allowed to bowl again?

At that point, there was visible confusion in the KKR camp. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and the support staff discussed the situation, and there were even signs that Tyagi might be replaced mid-over with Anukul Roy. However, after a discussion, the umpires ruled that the second full-toss was not dangerous enough and allowed him to continue bowling.

That decision proved crucial. Tyagi bounced back strongly and delivered a key wicket, dismissing Himmat Singh with a catch taken by
Rinku Singh in the deep. But the over was far from over in terms of drama.

With 7 runs still needed to win, the match went down to the final ball. Mohammed Shami held his nerve and smashed a six off Tyagi on the last delivery to tie the game, forcing a Super Over.
