Kartik Tyagi allowed to bowl despite 2 waist-high full tosses: Decision explained

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Kartik Tyagi had an absolute howler in the team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants. Defending 16 runs in the final over of the match at the Ekana Stadium, Kartik Tyagi bowled two waist-high full tosses against Himmat Singh. Just as logic dictated that Tyagi would be removed from the attack for bowling two dangerous balls, the umpires decided otherwise.
In an astonishing moment, the umpires asked the fast bowler to stay in the attack. The move puzzled fans on social media. As per the rules, two waist-high no-balls from any fast bowler prompt an immediate change in bowling as the balls are deemed to be dangerous.
LSG vs KKR, IPL 2026: Highlights | Scorecard
Just when KKR and the commentators started contemplating who would bowl the remaining balls, the umpires on Sunday decided that they would allow Tyagi to continue bowling, as the second full toss of his over was not deemed dangerous at all.
As the Lucknow Super Giants fans raged over the decision, Tyagi continued to bowl and ended up dismissing the batter. However, he was not able to win the game for KKR as Mohammed Shami’s final-ball heroics pushed the match into a Super Over.
Here’s how the final over in LSG vs KKR unfolded.
Lucknow Super Giants needed 17 runs from the final over, with Mohammad Shami and Himmat Singh at the crease, and Kolkata Knight Riders trusted Kartik Tyagi to close the game.
LSG vs KKR: KARTIK TYAGI’S FINAL OVER
19.1: Tyagi began with a slower back-of-a-length delivery outside off. Shami tried to slash it square on the off side but missed completely. The ball bounced awkwardly in front of Tim Seifert, who failed to collect it cleanly, and the batters stole a bye. LSG got the first run, but more importantly, Himmat was back on strike.
19.2: Drama arrived immediately. Tyagi lost control and fired a high full toss at Himmat Singh, a dangerous beamer around off stump. Himmat did well just to get some bat on it while protecting himself. The ball dropped into the leg side, and the umpire instantly called it a no-ball. Free Hit.
19.2 (Free Hit): Tyagi missed again. Another waist-high full toss, this time on off stump. Himmat connected, lofting it towards long-on where Rovman Powell completed the catch, but it would not count because it was another no-ball. KKR reviewed the waist-high call, hoping for relief, but ball tracking confirmed it was comfortably above the batter’s waist. The no-ball stood, LSG got two runs, and another Free Hit followed. There was also confusion over whether Tyagi should be removed from the attack for bowling two beamers, but the umpires ruled the second delivery was not dangerous enough, allowing him to continue.
19.2 (Second Free Hit): This time Himmat punished him. Tyagi went short and slower into the pitch, but Himmat was ready. Standing deep in his crease, he pulled it powerfully over square leg for four. Suddenly, the equation had shifted to eight needed from four balls, and pressure was mounting on Tyagi.
19.3: KKR adjusted quickly, placing Rinku Singh at deep backward square leg, and the move worked instantly. Tyagi bowled back of a length outside off, and Himmat went back to pull again. This time he hit it flat and straight to Rinku in the deep. The fielder barely had to move and completed a calm catch. Himmat’s fighting knock ended, and LSG were now 148/8, needing eight from three balls.
Prince Yadav walked in, with the game still swinging wildly.
19.4: Tyagi followed Prince with a slower bouncer as he shuffled far outside off looking for a scoop. Prince missed it completely, and Seifert once again fumbled behind the stumps. The batters crossed for a bye. Had Seifert thrown at the striker’s end, Shami might have been in trouble, but the chance went begging. Now it was seven needed from two balls, with Shami back on strike.
19.5: Tyagi kept it wide outside off, on a length. Shami planted himself and swung hard, but connected with nothing. A huge dot ball. The equation was now brutally simple: seven needed from one ball. Only a six could force a Super Over.
19.6: Tyagi missed his mark at the worst possible time. He landed it right in the slot on off stump, and Shami did not miss out. Clearing his front leg, he swung through the line beautifully and launched the ball over long-off for a massive six. Absolute scenes at the Ekana Stadium. KKR were left stunned, while LSG erupted in celebration.
KKR BEAT LSG IN SUPER OVER
After the poor finish in the final over, Kolkata Knight Riders made a massive comeback in the Super Over. Sunil Narine ran through the LSG side, dismissing Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram in three balls. Credit, however, needs to be given to some sensational catching from Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh at the boundary, who combined hold onto a sensational chance at long-on, off Aiden Markram.
The South African’s lofty drive was destined for a six, but Rovman ran to his left, pulled it down, and flung it to Rinku at long off to complete the catch. Rinku fittingly came out to bat in the Super Over and finished the match with a first ball boundary.
With the win, KKR moved out of the last spot on the table. They are now in 8th spot with 5 points from 8 games. LSG slumped to the bottom of the table after the defeat, with 4 points in 8 games.
