Red Sox add to coaching staff

In the wake of the Red Sox firing manager Alex Cora and six coaches (with an offer of an organizational reassignment for Jason Varitek), the team is adding to its staff for the forthcoming series in Toronto, according to major league sources.
Pablo Cabrera, a coordinator who works with infielders and outfielders, will join the team as a first base coach. Cabrera’s arrival presumably would permit first base coach José David Flores to serve as the bench coach for interim manager Chad Tracy, reprising a relationship that existed in Triple-A Worcester from 2022-24, when Tracy was the WooSox’ manager and Flores his bench coach.
Additionally, Drew Ehrhard will join the big league team as a bullpen catcher. Ehrhard has been in the Red Sox farm system as a player since 2023. In 11 games as a first baseman with Double-A Portland this year, the 27-year-old was hitting .132/.227/.316. He last played on April 23. Amid his offensive struggles and diminishing playing time, Ehrhard evidently became open to a career change.
