Sydney Sweeney Embraces Her “Nip Slips” in ‘Euphoria’ Wedding Episode for This Clever Reason

Sydney Sweeney was experiencing nip slips aplenty while rehearsing her first dance scene alongside Jacob Elordi for Cassie and Nate’s wedding in the third season of Euphoria.
-
Instead of adjusting her low-cut bridal gown, costume lead Natasha Newman-Thomas realized that the nip slips were totally in line with Cassie’s character.

Newman-Thomas came up with a clever way to embrace the wardrobe malfunction that would reflect on the self-centered character, who would insist on being a “princess” on her big day.
Sydney Sweeney’s wardrobe malfunction while filming a key scene in Euphoria season 3 became a cheeky reference to her iconic character.
The most recent episode of the HBO hit’s third—and likely final—season aired on April 26 and saw Sweeney’s character Cassie walking down the aisle to marry Nate (Jacob Elordi) after years of scheming and even a brief career as an OnlyFans star to finance a $50,000 floral display. For the occasion, the blushing bride said “I do” wearing a custom dress designed by Jackson Wiederhoeft.
Speaking to InStyle ahead of the episode, Euphoria‘s costume lead Natasha Newman-Thomas explains that Cassie’s wedding gown is every bit as extra as her character. She wore the dramatic dress, which featured a thigh-high slit and a plunging neckline, with a cathedral veil and clutched a bouquet of peach and pink peonies in her hand while being being escorted to her future husband by her on-screen mom, played by Alanna Ubach.

One issue that became apparent as Sweeney tried on the gown and wore it while filming was that the extra low-cut bodice was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. Newton-Thomas recalls that the actress was suffering nip slips aplenty while rehearsing the scene for her and Elordi’s first dance. However, instead of using methods to prevent the dress from slipping, the costume lead decided to embrace it as she thought Cassie would.
“Sydney kept having nip slips. And I was like, Okay, we’re not going to tape her in. We’re going to embrace it. And I was like, We’re going to make custom pasties out of the same hand-beaded fabric and embrace the nip slip because that’s so Cassie,” she recalls.
Reflecting on the dress, Newton-Thomas says that it perfectly matches “Cassie’s psychology” and her desire to be “a princess” on her big day. “And we really wanted her to feel special. And I wanted to make the most beautiful, sexy wedding dress with just the slightest touch of tackiness because it’s Cassie,” she says.
Jackson Wiederhoeft, the designer behind the namesake brand, further describes Sweeney’s dress as being “the type of dress where the bride wants all the shit,” including, “the high slit, the beading, the huge 15-foot train.”

“Best case scenario, I think you’re dressing as a form of self-expression [for your wedding day], but there is a scenario in which you’re dressing as revenge and as a form of trying to outdo everyone,” Wiederhoeft adds. “It was more about doing the most.”
Sweeney’s Cassie, a mainstay on the show from the jump, has attracted controversy so far this season, going topless and even dressing as a dog while trying to get her OnlyFans career off the ground. Her relationship with her longtime best friend turned mortal enemy, Maddy (Alexa Demie), has also generated buzz with many wondering how they will end things after a brutal falling out in the second season.
