Alex Fitzpatrick makes expected decision ahead of $20m Cadillac Championship

Alex Fitzpatrick will tee it up at this week’s Cadillac Championship, less than 24 hours after securing a life-changing victory alongside brother Matt Fitzpatrick at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The Fitzpatrick brothers made history at TPC Louisiana, becoming the first siblings to win an official PGA Tour team event together. A clutch birdie on the 72nd hole sealed a one-shot victory at 31-under par, narrowly edging out the teams of Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura, and Alex Smalley with Hayden Springer.
The triumph marked a defining moment in Alex Fitzpatrick’s career. Not only did he claim the biggest payday of his career — $1.37 million — but the win also earned him a two-year PGA Tour exemption through the 2028 season, and he also gets to compete in the remaining four Signature Events this season.
Alex became the first non-member and sponsor exemption to win on the PGA Tour since Michael Brennan at the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship, and the third first-time winner in 16 events this season, joining Jacob Bridgeman (The Genesis Invitational) and Ricky Castillo (Puerto Rico Open).
Five-time PGA Tour winner and world number three Matt Fitzpatrick, 31, later admitted the victory ranked among the most meaningful of his career, even alongside his 2022 US Open success. “To win a team event on the PGA Tour with my brother, I don’t know if it gets much better than that,” he said.

For Alex, the celebrations will be short-lived. The 27-year-old has immediately altered his schedule, withdrawing from the DP World Tour’s Turkish Airlines Open in Belek, Antalya, in favour of heading to Miami, Florida, for the PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.
A DP World Tour spokesperson confirmed to GolfMagic that Alex officially withdrew from the Turkish Airlines Open on Monday morning.

The Cadillac Championship marks the return of the iconic Blue Monster course to the PGA Tour rota after a decade-long absence.
A long-standing venue in professional golf, Doral previously hosted top-level events from 1962 through to 2016 and is renowned for its demanding layout, stretching over 7,700 yards and featuring water hazards throughout.

Fitzpatrick’s Zurich Classic win has now opened the door to a run of elite events on the PGA Tour.
Alex is now set to compete in the season’s remaining Signature Events, including this week’s Cadillac Championship, the Truist Championship, the Memorial Tournament, and the Travelers Championship.
The Englishman has also secured a place in next month’s PGA Championship at Aronimink, which will mark just his second major appearance.
His previous major outing came at the 2023 Open Championship, where he impressed with a tie for 17th.

This week’s Cadillac Championship field is already drawing attention, despite several notable absences.
Rory McIlroy is skipping the event, marking his third straight week on the sidelines since defending his Masters title, while Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, Bob MacIntyre, and Ludvig Åberg are also not in the field.
It marks the second Signature Event in a row that McIlroy has now missed.

Scottie Scheffler headlines the Cadillac Championship, although the world number one has confirmed he will sit out the following week’s Truist Championship, another Signature Event, as he prepares to defend his PGA Championship title at Aronimink.

With a $20 million purse and a $3.6 million winner’s cheque on offer, the Cadillac Championship represents a huge opportunity — and a stern test — for the younger Fitzpatrick as he looks to build on the momentum of his breakthrough win.
