FLOOD WATCH: Downpours over saturated soils may lead to flash flooding

SAN ANTONIO – A Flood Watch has been issued for much of our region including Bexar County from 9 p.m. this evening until Friday 9 at p.m. This watch covers counties along the Highway 90 corridor and north and includes Wilson County. Counties further south are not included in this watch.

The Flood Watch was issued for the potential for some areas to see two to four inches of rainfall with a very isolated spot closer to six inches possible.

In Bexar County, this scenario can easily produce localized flooding (flood advisories) in the urban landscape but the risk for a Flash Flood Warning is there too.

While the watch starts at 9 p.m., the rain will slowly develop and expand through the overnight and include some thunderstorms. This will linger through Friday morning. If storms train over the same area with high rainfall rates, it will be easy for some areas to see a quick one to three inches of rainfall.

During the day Friday, periods of rain will continue and on occasion, additional thunderstorms will move across before total drying begins Friday evening.

In addition to the risk of flooding, a few storms with hail and gusts over 50 mph will be possible overnight through Friday.

Cooler conditions are forecast to end the week, with highs dropping into the 60s and 70s Friday and this weekend. A drying and warming trend is forecast next week.

TODAY:
Mostly Cloudy, 30% PM Rain
HIGHS: 79 – 83
WINDS: NE to SE 7 – 14mph

Possibly a few breaks of sun in the afternoon with a couple showers or a stray thunderstorm possible.

FRIDAY:
Cloudy, 90% Rain
HIGHS: 65 – 69
WINDS: NE to NW 8 – 16mph

More widespread rain builds. Expecting on and off showers or thunderstorms in the area, then mostly cloudy with more showers or thunderstorms possible later in the day. Can’t rule out a strong storm and an area with locally heavy rain.

SATURDAY:
Turns Mostly Sunny, Nice Day
HIGHS: 70 – 74
WINDS: NNE 8 – 16mph

Absolutely beautiful day! Low humidity with a cool morning followed by partly sunny skies turning mostly sunny with temperatures just into the 70s.
