Brewers vs. Diamondbacks score, live updates, lineups Thursday

VIDEO: Who was Milwaukee Brewers player of the month in March/April?

JR Radcliffe discusses the Milwaukee Brewers’ top player, pitcher, surprise and game of March and April to kick off the 2026 season.

The Milwaukee Brewers close a six-game homestand April 30 with a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, kicking off at 12:40 p.m. CT with right-hander Brandon Woodruff facing off with Arizona righty Mike Soroka.

Brandon Woodruff taken out of game in second inning, velocities were wildly diminished

The dramatically reduced velocity did not come back in the second inning, and Brewers manager Pat Murphy walks out to the mound with the trainer. It’s not just a slight drop; we’re talking seven miles per hour off a standard Woodruff pitch.

He’s coming out of the game. Will obviously be a serious story line afterward as the Brewers figure out if they’re going to be without their veteran leader in the rotation for long.

Grant Anderson will check into the game with one out and a runner on in the second inning.

Brewers bust out the bats for three-run first inning

The Brewers may only have two homers in 13 games, but they’re capable to putting together some doubles. William Contreras hit one to score Garrett Mitchell from first base, and Luis Rengifo fell behind, 0-2, with two outs before lacing a two-run double that gave the Brewers a 3-0 lead in the first.

Both walks drawn in the inning came around to score.

The Brewers have a 3-0 lead and Woodruff is back out to the mound for the second despite some mid-80s velocity readings in the first. We’ll see how this goes.

Brandon Woodruff’s velocity down early

Some early concern for Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff, who’s down into the 80s on his fastballs and struggled with his control initially, walking leadoff batter Geraldo Perdomo.

He then struck out Ketel Marte with a nasty breaking pitch, but it’s definitely something to monitor. Woodruff’s velocity has oscillated in his quest to get back from shoulder surgery, but this is particularly low, averaging 85.6 miles per hour in the first inning. His first pitch of the day was an 84-mile per hour four-seamer according to the scoreboard.

He still got two strikeouts and a pop out, so it’s a scoreless frame.
