Stars’ Mikko Rantanen heads to locker room after Marcus Foligno incident

The Dallas Stars are facing elimination against the Minnesota Wild in Game 6. Minnesota can advance to the second round with a win on Thursday night. Dallas needs to play its best game. Unfortunately, one of their best players — Mikko Rantanen — may have been banged up.
Rantanen was skating on Thursday when he was clipped by Wild forward Marcus Foligno. Foligno’s stick appeared to catch him, as well, and Rantanen fell to the ice. It appeared the Stars forward may have hit his head on the ice. On-ice officials stopped the play, and shortly after play resumed, Rantanen headed down the tunnel. He returned to the ice for the second period.
Rantanen is one of the most important contributors on the Stars. He finished the 2025-26 season with 22 goals and 77 points. And he has six points through the first five games of this series. He has not recorded a point so far in Game 6 against the Wild.
The Stars are on the backfoot early against Minnesota, as well. Quinn Hughes opened the scoring for the Wild in the first period. Minnesota nearly scored again when Foligno had an open look at the net. However, Jake Oettinger made a fantastic save to keep the score 1-0.
Dallas did well to limit the amount of shots Minnesota had, allowing just seven in the first period. But the Stars have managed just four shots of their own. The Wild have controlled the play in the early going, and it could spell disaster for Dallas later on.
The winner of this series will move on to take on the Colorado Avalanche. Colorado has not played since April 25th, when they swept the Los Angeles Kings in the first round.
