Texas A&M baseball series opener against Auburn postponed

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M’s top-10 series opener against No. 8 Auburn has been postponed due to inclement weather, and a doubleheader will be played Saturday, according to a release from the program.

Saturday’s first game will be played at 1 p.m., with the second starting 45 minutes after the first ends.

According First Alert meteorologist Cassidy Towns, a low pressure system across West Texas has brought waves of showers and storms to the area, starting Thursday night and continuing through the day Friday. This setup led to some impressive rainfall totals, with many spots picking up between 1 to 4 inches.

Given that scattered showers continue to move over already saturated ground, minor flooding in urban, low-lying areas, and roadways remains a concern through the evening. Additionally, a few isolated stronger storms will be possible through Friday evening, with heavy rain and lightning being the main concerns before things begin to quiet down later tonight.

As we turn the page to Saturday, we’re waking up to cooler and drier air with plenty of sunshine expected all day long. Afternoon temperatures will top out in the low 70s, and a light northeast breeze will stick with us, setting the stage for some perfect baseball weather.

Fans with tickets for Friday’s game can use them for Saturday’s second game. Tickets for Saturday’s original game will be good for the opening game of the doubleheader.

Saturday will be an especially busy time in Aggieland, with both the No. 7 baseball team and the No. 12 softball squad hosting doubleheaders; the latter faces Oklahoma at 12:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Aggie men’s tennis team will host NCAA Tournament first-round matches at the Mitchell Tennis Center beginning at 10 a.m. Also, Kyle Field is expecting more than 100,000 fans for the Savannah Bananas at 7 p.m.
