Comic Con Liverpool has announced some last-minute cancellations with a number of stars pulling out from the event. The convention returns for its spring edition this weekend with thousands of fans ready to meet their favourite stars.

The bi-annual event is held in the Exhibition Centre at Liverpool Experience Campus with a range of talks, traders and events for guests to enjoy. From Saturday, May 2 to Sunday, May 3, attendees can look forward to autograph signings, professional photo sessions, and live Q&A panels where stars will discuss both their past work and upcoming projects.

Comic Con fans can purchase a variety of tickets including full weekend or one day only passes. The spring 2026 line-up includes Stranger Things stars Noah Schnapp, Cara Buono, Joe Chrest and Caleb McLaughlin. Doctor Who stars Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan have also been confirmed.

X-Files star Gillian Anderson was announced as the first guest last November, followed by Star Trek actor William Shatner. Around 50 stars from across comic books, television, film and pop culture will visit the city this weekend.

However, the team has confirmed some stars can no longer attend. Writing on social media, they said: “We are bringing you this news as soon as possible and exactly as it was relayed to us.

“We were told last night that Joel David Moore has a directing job this weekend and is now unable to attend. We were also emailed overnight to say that Steven Williams has Covid and also will not be attending.

“Ticket Quarter have been notified and all refunds will be sent automatically for autos and photos. If you purchased the X-Files group photo you will receive a partial refund equivalent to Steven’s photo price.

“Emmett J Scanlan has agreed to attend now on Saturday. He will be taking Joel’s table in the Green venue (M&S Bank Arena) on Saturday. He will also be taking his photo timeslots. 1.45pm Photoshoot F and 4.55pm Photoshoot D on the Saturday. Emmett’s Sunday location and timeslots are unchanged. So he is essentially in the Green Venue Saturday and the Blue venue Sunday.

“As this is so late none of these changes will reflect on the lanyards which have already been printed – but we’ll update all of the digital screens, which display timings, that you will see around the venue.

“Any other changes we’ll let you know asap, but most guests are now in the air, on the way to the airports or have already landed in some cases.

“Late cancellations are a nightmare for us all, but can’t be helped, and if we have any opportunities to fill those spaces – with relevant names – then we will.”

Fans will also be glad to hear that it isn’t all bad news. In another separate post, the team added: “After speaking with Alicia Silverstone and her team, she will be joining us on the Sunday of Comic Con Liverpool from 10:30am – 1pm only.

“There will be no professional photo sessions, just selfies and autographs only. Alicia will be located at the same table on Sunday that she will be at Saturday in the ECL Blue venue.”
