Vince Morales hoping for a ‘bloody’ war against Colby Thicknesse at UFC Perth: ‘Prove why I belong in the UFC’
Vince Morales knows his back is against the wall at UFC Perth.
Morales is set to take on Colby Thicknesse in what should be a fan-friendly fight at bantamweight. It will also serve as Morales’ first fight in over a year, which was a longer layoff than he expected.
“I had a knee surgery, it was minimal, it was a meniscus thing, right after the fight last year,” Morales said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “For whatever reason, it took forever for something to materialize. It’s been the longest time off I’ve ever had, maybe it’s a blessing because I feel great right now.”
While Morales was waiting for a contract, he was hopeful to get on the Australia card to compete alongside his teammate and close friend, Kody Steele.
“My good friend Kody Steele got on that card, and we jokingly said it would be crazy if we both got on it,” Morales said. “Sure enough, that is what happened. One of my favorite things about my MMA career is that it takes me all over the world, and one place I haven’t been is Australia, and here we are.”

Once Morales got the fight booked against Colby Thicknesse at UFC Perth, he was eager for it.
Morales is on a three-fight losing skid, and his last fight was one where Raul Rosas Jr. held him down for three rounds. So, at UFC Perth, Morales is hopeful for a brawl and an exciting fight.
“I’m hoping he wants to dog it out with me a little bit because my soul needs that after a year layoff,” Morales said. “I’m itching. I need to get in there, get bloody, and get a real fight. … I’m craving in there and having a crazy fight, like a brawl to put on a show for the fans.”
Although Morales is hopeful for a brawl, he does believe he has the tools to get a stoppage win and silence the Aussie crowd.
“I’m looking for a finish. I’m in there trying to get my money, I’m looking for a fight. I think it will be a war of attrition, and I’m down to get in there and break this dude,” Morales said.
If Morales gets his hand raised, it likely will save his UFC career, as he knows he’s fighting for his job on Saturday.
“My whole plan is to go out there and show out and prove why I belong in the UFC and get a new contract. … For me, it’s a little extra fuel in the fire. I know what I can do,” Morales said.
