Maya Jama has admitted she suffered a harrowing health scare in recent weeks.
Love Island host Maya, 31, took to her Instagram on Thursday (April 30) to break her silence on the health issues she has been having. She added that the results have left her feeling “nervous” that something worse could happen to her.
In her chilling health update, she urged those who are eligible for smear tests to get checked as soon as possible as it may catch something previously unseen. However, she said that she is now on the mend and thanked all the doctors she worked with for her support.

Writing on her Instagram, she revealed she was forced to cut her trip to Ibiza short and return home for a follow-up appointment following her own smear test. She admitted she was apprehensive about what they might say.
Uploading a photo of her in a pair of white Nike trainers in the waiting room of the doctor, Maya sarcastically wrote: “24hrs in Ibiza was fun. At the doctors now as a follow up from my smear test the other day.
“I have to get those cells burned off, feeling nervous but this is why smears are so important!” she wrote. In a second snap, she posed in front of the mirror in a white T-shirt, jeans and sunglasses, giving another update to fans.

She penned: “So turns out I didn’t need the cells burned. But a mini biopsy to monitor the cells further, again reminder to go in if you are putting it off.”
Maya has previously been candid about her health struggles, revealing in 2021 that she had been dealing with complications with her privates after delaying her own smear test. The presenter confirmed she has suspected cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), which she says was down to her putting her tests off by a year.
CIN can act as a silent killer, as it changes the cells at the line of the cervix in an abnormal way. This change happens without any symptoms and is likely to only be picked up through a smear test.
The Love Island host pleaded with fans to get checked, despite the potential embarrassment
Writing at the time, Maya pleaded with fans to get checked as soon as possible: “Just get checked, don’t put it off, it’s minor. They’re professional doctors, they’ve seen a million f*****s, they’re not going to be shocked by any.
“I know that’s a weird thought because I always thought like, ‘Oh my God, they’re gonna see my noon.’ But it’s just minor.”
