Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer left Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins in the third inning after being hit on the left foot.
It was the same left foot that kept Springer out for most of April, and Springer appeared to take Saturday’s beanball from Twins starter Connor Prielipp directly on his fractured toe. He stayed down for a while before gingerly making his way off the field and into the dugout in obvious pain.
Springer was originally injured in a game against the Twins on April 11 in Toronto after fouling a pitch off his left toe, which resulted in a fracture. He returned this week against the Boston Red Sox.
The 36-year-old Springer was 0-for-1 with the hit-by-pitch before leaving Saturday’s game. He came into the matchup slashing .215/.301/.369 with two home runs and seven RBI in 17 games so far this season.
The Blue Jays will wrap up their four-game set against the Twins on Sunday afternoon before heading to Tampa to take on the Rays for the first time this year.
