These cities waited for snow all winter. Now several inches will fall in May.

The state of Colorado is about to feel some serious weather whiplash — from warm sun to heavy and potentially damaging snow and back to sunshine in just a few days.

After high temperatures reached well into the 70s on Monday, a big May snowstorm — possibly the largest in a decade or two — is forecast to hit Denver and surrounding areas from Tuesday night into Wednesday, notable for an area facing extreme drought and historically low snowpack. The big coming snow will be followed by a return to 70-degree temperatures at the end of the week.
