Georgia tax rebates should be arriving in your accounts soon

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — If Gov. Brian Kemp’s calendar is to be believed, eligible Georgia taxpayers should begin receiving their first round of tax rebates this week.
The Georgia Department of Revenue has confirmed it has begun issuing surplus tax refund checks to taxpayers.
Kemp signed HB 1000 into law on March 20, 2026. At the time, he said Georgians would begin receiving their refunds within five to six weeks … which means right about now.
Here’s how it works
- Single filers will get $250.
- Joint filers will get $500.
- The head of household will get $375.
- Those who filed returns in 2024 and 2025 are eligible, but they must not owe any money to the Georgia Department of Revenue.
- Check your eligibility here.
Previous special refunds were issued in 2022, 2023, and 2025. HB 1000 marks the fourth time Kemp has signed a tax rebate.
In his final state of the state address earlier this year, delivered to both Georgia representatives and senators, Kemp proposed a budget that includes another $1 billion tax rebate that, he said, “will return or save the average filer $250 and a married couple up to $500.”

Kemp is currently in the last year of his second gubernatorial term and has made no firm announcements regarding his own political future, having rejected national GOP leaders’ call to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff this fall.
