The Philadelphia Phillies have been slowly trying to turn things around since firing Rob Thompson and bringing on Don Mattingly as interim manager, going 7-3 in their last 10 and looking a bit more competent overall.
However, there is still a long way for the Phillies to go if they want to get back to where they should be: World Series contenders.
While it’s still a daunting task, it’s completely doable and it’s been done by teams in worse positions before. The 2019 Washington Nationals are the perfect example of a team that looked to be pretty much out of it by the time May rolled around, but then turned it around to sneak into the postseason and make a run all the way to a World Series win.
But it starts now for the Phillies, and building a foundation day by day is important if you’re going to turn it around and do what those Nationals did.
On Tuesday, the Phillies begin a series against the Athletics where they’ll look to continue slowly improving and working their way back into the mix, with one of their stars on the mound to help them out.
