As the summer holidays begin the airport has shared advice on how to make your journey as smooth as possible

Manchester Airport has shared a handy tip for passengers jetting off from the northern travel hub this summer. It comes as schools break up for the summer holidays and thousands of families jet off abroad.
While going away on holiday is exciting, there’s a lot of processes to remember when you’re at the airport before you can get on your way, from making sure everything is packed and checking-in on time to passing through security and remembering your passport.
Although certain aspects are out of your control, you can take measures to ensure your journey is as smooth as possible. One of these areas is security.

During peak travel periods queues can build up at security lanes, although Manchester Airport did state that in June – its busiest on record which saw it welcome more than three million passengers – 92 per cent of people waited 10 minutes of less to pass through security.
To ensure passengers move through security efficiently, the airport has reminded travellers of the rules they need to know, along with a more unusual tip. All passengers still need to comply with the 100ml liquid rule for hand luggage, which is still in place despite the installation of new security CT scanners.

According to the rules anything that is pourable or spreadable at room temperature is classed as a liquid and these must be in containers of 100ml or less, and clearly labelled. It’s important to not get caught out by things like snowglobes and children’s ‘squishy’ toys. If you’re in doubt over anything it’s best to put it in your checked bags.
The good news is that thanks to the new scanners, travellers don’t need to remove items like electronics from bags. But you’ll still be asked to remove loose outer clothing like jackets, coats and metal items like belts, so make sure you’re dressed appropriately to make it as easy as possible.
Manchester Airport also shared a more unusual tip which you may not have thought of. If passengers are given the choice of security lanes, they should pick the left rather than the right.
This is because most passengers are right handed so will subconsciously prefer the right, making the left a little quieter. While it won’t work during peak travel periods, it’s a handy thing to remember if you’re given a choice.
Another useful piece of advice the airport shared when it comes to saving time is to ask if an airport restaurant has an express menu. It’s offered by many of the eateries in departures and will guarantee you a fifteen minute maximum preparation time.
