5 juveniles charged with murder in homeless man’s killing in Binghamton

Binghamton, N.Y. — Five children have been charged with second-degree murder for a deadly assault, according to the Binghamton Police Department.
The victim, Peter Bennedum, a 45-year-old homeless man from Binghamton, was attacked by five juvenile suspects the night of April 27 in the area of Carroll and Henry streets, police said. Bennedum was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries Tuesday afternoon.
Four of the suspects were arrested April 28 and were originally charged with attempted murder, police said. They remain in custody at a juvenile detention facility and will be arraigned on the murder charges at a later date.
Police said a fifth suspect, age 13, was arrested Wednesday, arraigned in Broome County Court and remanded to custody at a juvenile detention center in Syracuse.
