Kate Garraway praises ITV star for finding love later in life ‘it’s a wonderful story’

Coronation Street icon Maureen Lipman tied the knot with her partner at the end of last year during an intimate ceremony.
The 79-year-old has been with her partner, David Turner, for several years, following the death of her previous partner, Guido Castro, in 2021, with whom she had been for 13 years.
Appearing on Wednesday’s (May 6) episode of Good Morning Britain, the actress touched on finding love later on in life as Kate Garraway praised her for speaking so openly.
Kate, who’s husband Derek Draper passed away in 2024, commented: “You’ve done a huge service because you’ve talked a lot about your grief, which was very real, and now finding love.
“I think for many people who have suffered loss, you’ve been very kind to me personally, it’s a wonderful story of finding love at a later stage in life.”
She replied: “It can happen to you, it can. It is very wonderful, and I don’t want to be smug because I would wish it for everybody on earth, but you know, a nice man and a wonderful family. Nothing stays the same, so you have to be prepared for change.”
Maureen was first married to Jack Rosenthal for 30 years before he sadly died from cancer in 2004. During their marriage, the pair had two children together.
In the past, the ITV star has spoken openly about her grief. In a magazine interview back in 2020, she said: “I found it almost impossible to grieve because my nature is to make people laugh.
“And then, I’d feel terrible about the fact I didn’t look like I was grieving enough.” Touching on how the pair decided to tie the knot, the actress revealed that she was the one to propose to her partner.
Ed commented, “There’s a special day in the Jewish Calendar called Tu B’Av, which is the special day once a year where women can propose to men, and you took advantage of that day in the calendar, did you get down on one knee?”
She replied: “Honestly, Ed, you believe everything you read! Yes, I did. We were on a train, I’d been with David for a year or so.
“He told me this fact, he’d quite erudite about his faith, and so I just, for a joke, slid under the table and said, ‘Will you marry me?'”
When David asked whether or not she was being serious, Marueen confessed she wasn’t sure, although it seemed as though her joke turned into a more serious occasion.
