Local election polls open for voting in South and West Yorkshire

Voting is under way at polling stations across Yorkshire in England’s local elections.

Registered voters are able to cast their ballots between 07:00 and 22:00 BST on Thursday.

All-out elections are taking place in Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, meaning voters can choose three candidates for their ward. A third of council seats are up for election in Sheffield and Leeds, with voters allowed to choose one representative for their area.

Counting is expected to begin on Friday, with the results announced later in the day.
