A lockdown is currently in force at a college, with students reportedly confined to classrooms. Kirklees College has confirmed that all their centres are presently under “precautionary” lockdown following “received information” this morning (Thursday, May 7). The college is acting on the advice of West Yorkshire Police.
All college buildings are now locked, and students have been urged to stay put and remain calm. Eyewitness reports suggest students are locked in classrooms and those not already there have been advised not to attend college today.
West Yorkshire Police and Kirklees College have been approached for comment, reports Yorkshire Live.
Kirklees College have published a statement on the lockdown. In it, the college said: “Following advice from the police, all Kirklees College centres are now in a precautionary lockdown.
“If you are currently at one of our centres, please remain where you are. A member of staff will provide further instructions. If you have not yet travelled into College today, please do not make the journey. All centres are closed for the rest of the day.
“We will keep you updated as soon as we have further information.”
