From Spain: Crystal Palace now close to securing Andoni Iraola in sudden twist

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is close to joining Crystal Palace this summer once he leaves the Cherries.
El Chiringuito in Spain, and journalist Marcos Benito, report that Iraola is close to an agreement to take charge of Crystal Palace next season.
Crystal Palace efforts
Andoni Iraola is set to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season. He’s decided to depart at the end of his contract rather than extend his stay with the Cherries.
The Spanish coach has been heavily linked with various positions since. He was one of the frontrunners for the Athletic Club de Bilbao job, before they appointed Edin Terzic instead.
He has also been heavily linked with Manchester United, should they decide not to continue with Michael Carrick beyond the end of the season.
Sport Witness, though, covered a report from Spain in April stating that Crystal Palace had made a lucrative offer to the 43-year-old.
The Eagles are seeking a replacement for Oliver Glasner. The Austrian is leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season.
Now, it appears, they are close to securing the current Bournemouth manager. El Chiringuito report that ‘Andoni Iraola is close to joining Crystal Palace’ for next season. The outlet provides no further information than that.
Crystal Palace ambition
But the appointment would be a major coup for Crystal Palace given the work that Andoni Iraola has done during his time with Bournemouth.
Not only would they be securing a manager who is comfortable and proven in the Premier League. There will also be very little difficulty transitioning from Oliver Glasner’s style to the Spaniard’s either.
It could, at least on the face of it, be the perfect appointment for the Eagles. And will certainly be one that not only shows their ambition, but their ability to match that ambition with an impressive capture such as this.
Crystal Palace have also been in contact with Villarreal’s Marcelino, but he doesn’t appear to be their first choice.
