‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22 finale recap – Do Owen Hunt, Nick Marsh die?

The Season 22 finale, directed by Kevin McKidd, picks up right after a catastrophic bridge collapse sends multiple victims to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
‘The Pitt’ has us thinking of our favorite medical dramas
With the recent influx of medical dramas on TV this year, we ranked our top 3 of all time.
Warning: The following contains major spoilers for the Season 22 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
No doctors are safe at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, especially during a season finale.
Longtime “Grey’s Anatomy” viewers were speculating that Dr. Owen Hunt could die following last week’s dramatic cliffhanger and reports that it would be Kevin McKidd’s final episode as a series regular.
The Season 22 finale, directed by McKidd himself, picked up right after a catastrophic bridge collapse sends multiple victims to the E.R., including Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), Dr. Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) boyfriend.
The episode largely follows Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) as she frantically handles the disaster as the chief of surgery while worrying about her ex-husband, long-term best friend and soulmate, Owen.
The finale also answers the question of Dr. Benson Kwan, who was fired in the penultimate episode, and teases what’s next for other characters. Here’s what to know.
Does Owen Hunt die in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
Owen Hunt does not die in the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 22 finale. He was hardly injured in the bridge collapse and managed to treat a family of four in a crushed car, who all survived thanks to his expertise as a longtime trauma surgeon.
After the massive trauma crisis is resolved, Owen professes his desire to be with Teddy and move to Paris, where Teddy was considering a once-in-a-lifetime research position.
The episode ends in two tearjerker compilations, sending off Owen and Teddy as they leave the series. Owen was introduced in Season 5 and has remained part of the series up until now. Teddy was introduced in Season 6 and exited in the Season 8 finale before returning in Season 14.
Does Nick Marsh die in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
Nick Marsh was injured in the bridge collapse, experiencing abdominal trauma and bleeding from his liver and spleen.
Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) operates as the lead surgeon on the case with help from Dr. Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush), Dr. Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane), Dr. Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) and later Dr. Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill). Ultimately, the surgery is a success with Nick expected to make a full recovery.
The moment was particularly traumatizing for Grey, who had previously lost her husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd, in a semi-truck accident and inadequate treatment.
Is Dr. Benson Kwan still fired in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
Despite Dr. Benson Kwan’s heroic efforts during the all-hands trauma incident, in which Chief Altman allowed him to assist, he was not offered his job back.
Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) ordered Kwan to return his badge and not return.
The surgical resident was fired after an internal Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital investigation found that he secretly gave a patient an experimental, FDA-denied treatment despite Dr. Miranda Bailey’s efforts to take the blame for him.
The finale also ends with Bailey deciding to pursue a master’s degree in public health, and Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) telling Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack) that she is unsure whether she wants to work in medicine anymore.
“Grey’s Anatomy” will return in the fall for its 23rd season.
