Prince George may lose two clothing stores

The company that owns Bootlegger and Warehouse One is looking for permission to close 128 locations across Canada
It could be sad news for Prince George shoppers as two clothing retailers are on the verge of closing in the near future.
Financial management firm Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc., reported on its website on Wednesday, May 6, that Warehouse One Clothing Ltd will apply to the Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba on Friday, May 15 for permission to close all of its retail locations as part of proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA)
The CCAA allows for Canadian companies owing creditors more than $5 million to restructure their affairs and potentially continue operations as they seek to pay back what they owe.
The company currently operates 128 Warehouse One and Bootlegger stores in Canada, including a Warehouse One location on 15th Ave and a Bootlegger location at Pine Centre Mall in Prince George.
Alvarez & Marsal’s post regarding the company said it will honour gift cards, returns and exchanges as well as keep running its perks program until Wednesday, May 13. After that date, all sales will be final.
Last year, The Citizen reported that Comark Holdings Inc. was entering creditor protection and was planning on keeping its Ricki’s location open in Prince George while the future of the Bootlegger store was uncertain. At the time, an Ontario court had recently approved the sale of the Ricki’s chain to Putman Investments while Warehouse One was eyeing the purchase of Bootlegger.
Reached by phone, a staff member at Warehouse One’s Prince George location declined comment and referred The Citizen to the company’s head office. An employee at Bootlegger said nine people work at the local store but they couldn’t comment further as a manager was not present.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
