How rehab stints for 3 key Seattle Mariners are going

The Seattle Mariners have three notable players currently on minor league rehab assignments as they work their way toward returning to the big league club from injuries.

Here’s a look at how each are doing.

Bryce Miller

The 27-year-old right-hander made his fourth start for a Mariners minor league affiliate on Wednesday night since starting his rehab assignment on April 18, going five shutout innings for the High-A Everett AquaSox against the Hillsboro Hops. Miller struck out three while allowing two hits and three walks, and he increased his pitch count to 61 (38 strikes) from 53 pitches in his previous outing.

It was the third straight scoreless outing for Miller, who went four innings without giving up a run for Triple-A Tacoma on April 30 and three innings without giving up a run for Everett on April 24.

Miller is working back from a left oblique strain that interrupted his spring training and landed him on the 15-day injured list to begin the season.

Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said the team would likely use the full 30 days allowed for Miller on his rehab stint, which means he could get as many as two more starts in before returning to the M’s. That would give the M’s plenty of time to figure out what to do with a crowded starting rotation situation, which is a good problem to have. Emerson Hancock has shined in Miller’s spot in the rotation early this season.

Brendan Donovan

The Mariners’ key offseason acquisition joined Double-A Arkansas on Tuesday, going 1 for 3 with an RBI double and two walks against the Tulsa Drillers.

Unfortunately, the Travelers’ game on Wednesday was rained out. Donovan is expected to rejoin the Mariners during their series in Chicago against the White Sox, which begins at 4:40 p.m. Friday. It’s unknown how Wednesday’s postponement impacts those plans, if at all. Arkansas is scheduled to play the Drillers on Thursday at 3:35 p.m. Pacific.

Donovan has been on the 10-day IL with a left groin strain since April 18.

Victor Robles

Seattle’s 28-year-old right fielder has appeared in three games for Triple-A Tacoma this week, going 0 for 6 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored.

Robles has been on the 10-day IL since April 6 with a right pectoral strain. He has played in the field and been pulled after two or three plate appearances in each of his games with the Rainiers thus far.
