Ryan Giles feels the pressure in the play-offs is very different to what players feel during the regular Championship season, as he looks to pass on his experience over the next few days.

The influential Hull City defender was part of the Middlesbrough squad that were beaten in the semi-finals by Coventry City a couple of years ago, but will hope to go one better this time around when the Tigers face Millwall over two legs, with the first at the MKM Stadium on Friday night before the return at The Den on Monday.

City soared into the top six after Saturday’s dramatic win over Norwich City, which secured sixth place after Wrexham were held by Boro at the Racecourse, and in the process, kept their dreams of making it to the Premier League alive.

“It is a different type of pressure, I think, because ultimately you are three games away from the Premier League and getting promoted. You have to go into those games by giving it your all, stick to the game plan and that is big with any game,” he said. “It is a nice pressure to have, I must say.

“I have had the luxury of experiencing it before. Obviously, it didn’t go the way we wanted it to go, but hopefully this time around, if all goes well, we can use my experience and everybody else’s play-off experience and we can be in good stead.

“It is every player’s dream to play in the Premier League, but we can’t look too far ahead,” explained Giles. “I feel I can say everybody wants to play in the Premier League as it is the best league in the world, biggest stage and everybody is watching you. It opens so many doors for you as an individual as well, so it is a no-brainer really.”
