RAF explains why Chinook had to land in field near busy road

The Chinook could be seen in a field alongside the B4214 Tenbury road near Bromyard this morning, offering an unusually close-up view of the impressive aircraft to commuters.
It is understood to have touched down in the field late last night.
A Royal Air Force spokesperson told the Hereford Times that the RAF Chinook from 18 Sqn, RAF Odiham completed a precautionary landing in a field near Bromyard, Herefordshire.
“The aircraft landed safely and the crew are fine,” the spokesperson said.
“We would like to thank the landowner for their patience and assistance whilst we assess the aircraft.”
Chinooks are based at RAF Benson, RAF Odiham, and JHC FS Aldergrove.
They fly with 18 Squadron, 28 Squadron, 27 Squadron, 7 Squadron, and the Chinook Role Demo Team.
The aircraft, immediately recognisable both for their design and the distinctive sound they make in flight, primarily support troop transport, resupply, and casualty evacuation, carrying up to 55 troops or 10 tonnes of cargo, according to the Ministry of Defence.
