Rockville gates reopen, performances to resume after weather delay

DAYTONA BEACH — Welcome To Rockville has announced the gates to the music festival are reopening after a weather-related pause.

Thousands of rock fans were caught up in a thunderstorm, which led to festival officials sending Rockville attendees to their campsites, cars, and the Daytona International Speedway grandstands for safety.

The National Weather Service reported storms moving across Volusia County, from the west, just after 6 p.m.

Parts of Volusia County, including the Daytona Beach area, were under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph were possible, with a chance of 1/2-inch hail, as well.

Some of Rockville’s most-anticipated performances — including Foo Fighters at 10 p.m. — were on hold. It’s unclear how the schedule will be revised.
