Obst found out about the award among his teammates before the final practice at BMW Park for the away game in Ludwigsburg — on the video cube via a greeting message from his grandparents, who, alongside his mother, are his biggest fans. His grandpa once hung up the first basketball hoop for Andi in the garden.
“Many thanks to my teammates, the coaching staff, and the entire Bayern back office. Everyone supports me here in an exceptional way,” said Obst. “This award is really special and means a lot to me. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we can still win another title this year. If we manage that, everyone will be invited by Grandma and Grandpa for rhubarb cake. Their greeting video with the news really got to me emotionally — thank you again.”
