Investigation underway into fatal shooting in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA — An investigation is underway into a fatal shooting and fire Friday afternoon in Santa Clara, police said.

Officers were called to the 600 block of Enright Avenue around 12:30 p.m. for a report of a person possibly shot, Santa Clara police Lt. Eric Lagergren said in an email. They arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound in front of a home.

Lagergren said the man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also determined a home in the area was on fire and alerted the Santa Clara Fire Department, Lagergren said.

Lagergren said police did not have a suspect in custody. Additional details about the shooting and fire were not immediately available.

“This remains an active investigation,” Lagergren said.
