There’s no stopping Victoria Smurfit as she reveals new project away from acting

Victoria Smurfit hasn’t had enough of acting, and we certainly haven’t had enough of her, but she’s side-stepping into another career lane.

The 52-year-old has come a long way since her days on Ballykissangel, going on to appear in Once Upon A Time, and now, feeding us Rivals-crazed fans with her vivacious Maud O’Hara.

She’s made it known that she’s great at lifting characters from pages, but will she be equally as good at crafting them from scratch? Our bet is yes!

Speaking to You magazine, Victoria revealed that she’s been inspired by lots of greats before her, including Rivals author Dame Jilly Cooper, and is trying her hand at becoming a novelist.

When asked, ‘What other profession would you like to attempt?’, Victoria admitted: ‘Writer’.

‘I’m writing a novel at the moment. I’ve got 40,000 words, and it’s a dark, funny beach read,’ she said. ‘I have plenty of crazy ideas in me which I need to get out.’

There’s nothing we love more than a good beach read, and if Victoria Smurfit has put her name to something, you can bet your bottom dollar that we’re going to lap it up.

Her revelation comes just days after she was announced as the President of the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). She has many, many strings in her bow.

Victoria has a deeply personal connection to RNIB. Her daughter, Evie, was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy as a child, and the proud mum has always been very open about her ‘phenomenal’ not-so-little girl.

The Rivals actress takes the reins from Dame Gail Ronson DBE, who stood down after ‘an incredible 14 years of tireless service’.
