Recognise BAFTA-winner Christine Tremarco? Here’s where from – it will surprise you

The BAFTA TV awards have kicked off to an emotion start, with Adolescence’s Christine Tremarco winning best supporting actress for her incredible role as the mother of a teen killer in Stephen Graham’s powerful drama about male violence. Tremarco played Manda Miller, mother to Jamie Miller who was accused of killing a female classmate, in the emotional series that made global headlines for its incredible spotlight on violence against woman and girls.

For those unfamiliar with Tremarco’s career, she’s been a long-standing fixture in British television ever since her debut aged 15. With memorable roles in soaps, theatre and film alike, the Liverpudlian actor has been active on-screen for more than 30 years.

Who is Christine Tremarco?

Tremarco was born and raised in Liverpool, attending Holly Lodge Girls College before she was invited to a drama school after being scouted in a school play. She made her-on screen debut soon thereafter, spotted by a casting agent while performing in her local drama group, and offered co-lead in a two-part TV film calling The Leaving of Liverpool which depicted the force migration of British children to Australia in the 1950s. She received an AACTA nomination for her role as headstrong orphan, Lily.

Proudly working-class, in a 2025 interview with Stylist, Tremarco reflected on attending the Emmys alongside her longtime friend and co-star Stephen Graham, whom she grew up with in Kirby as their parents were best friends. ‘It was really emotional, from kicking around the streets of Kirby to the Emmys,’ she said. ‘It’s a beautiful thing, and to see him up there and win was amazing. We’re just two kids from a council estate, I’m so proud of him. We all are.’

She also spoke of her pride for Adolescence star Owen Cooper, who won best supporting actor tonight alongside his previous Emmy win.  ‘I was so proud of Owen,’ she said, ‘He’s only 15, you know, and to get up there in front of all those people… I was just so delighted for all of our Adolescence team, cast and crew.’

What movies and TV shows has Christine Tremarco been in?

Tremarco made her film debut in Priest, and later starred in British films Under the Skin, Face and Hold Back the Night. However, she is best known for her roles in British soaps, including Waterloo Road, Casualty and Emmerdale. Prior to her award-winning performance in Adolescence in 2025, she also received praise for her role in The Responder, a police TV series in which she played Diane Gallagher.

Some may also remember her as Clare in Fat Friends, the comedy series starring Ruth Jones and James Corden, that recently resurged in popularity after being added to Netflix. Other series Tremarco has been noted in are Little Boy Blue, Clink, Wolfe, with many of her projects rooted in gritty British social drama.

There’s very little public information available about Tremarco’s romantic life, but some report that she is married to a private citizen named Ronnie Baker. She is reported to have two children, but these are unconfirmed reports. It is not known whether her guest at the BAFTAs, with whom she posed with her award, is a relative.
