Smoke seen rising from bushes near Harrow footbridge as firefighters respond

Firefighters were called to Harrow View early this morning, Monday 11 May, after a fire broke out in bushes and undergrowth beside a footbridge near the junction of Pinner Park Avenue.

The incident happened at around 7.30am, with firefighters seen using hoses to tackle smoke coming from the overgrown area below the bridge.

It is believed the fire may have been caused by a discarded cigarette.

Paolo Arrigo, who was at the scene, said: “Also I did that thing we all do, drove past, saw smoke, couldn’t stop, drove on. But my SJA emergency responder training kicked in and I went back only to find it was a legit fire that had taken hold.”

He added: “Though not a major fire, brush fires like this are deep and can be difficult to extinguish.”

Paolo, who is also runs Seeds of Italy in Harrow, added: “As a seedsman and horticulturalist, I can tell you it’s extremely dry, hasn’t rained for weeks and to be careful of bbq’s and discarded cigarettes.”
