GROND! GROND! GROND! LEGO has officially unveiled 40893 Grond, the massive wolf-headed battering ram used to lay siege to Minas Tirith in Return of the King.
It’s now official, LEGO has officially unveiled 11377 Minas Tirith! Check out the full reveal of LEGO Minas Tirith!
This will be a Gift with Purchase (GWP) for a big LEGO Lord of the Rings set that hasn’t been officially unveiled. I wonder what Grond could be used for? With this showing up online, the official reveal is likely… very soon. Our beacons are already very lit.
40893 Grond looks great, with flames spewing out of his jaws, and suspended on might chains, just like the movie. Grond in the movie is named after Morgoth’s mace, Grond, the Hammer of the Underworld, and that just delights my nerdly little Tolkien heart.
The set comes with a Mordor Orc, and an Uruk-Hai, but no Gothmog. You’ll have to transfer him out of 10333 Barad-dûr to direct the siege of Minas Tirith.
40893 Grond is a GWP done right. It perfectly complements the big set that it lays siege to, but doesn’t contain any exclusive elements or minifigures (the Orc components can be made from Barad-Dur minifigures), so good on LEGO for not gatekeeping anything exclusive behind this GWP.
If you’re going to buy the big LEGO Lord of the Rings set at launch, 40893 Grond is a nice little GWP that rewards early adopters.
